LENT IS UPON US. LET US REFLECT ON THE SACRIFICE OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST MADE FOR US

From the Desk of the Grand Knight:

Dear Brother Knights:

OUR COMMUNION BREAKFAST IS MARCH 11.  STARTING WITH 7:30 A.M. MASS AT ST. JOHNS FOLLOWED BY BREAKFAST AT THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS HALL.

We are asking the following to help us out at mass:

Eucharistic Ministers: Stan Stachura, jr., Dick Czapiga, Vic Cassella, Dave Murphy and Thad Oblon

Commentator:  Ernie Harriman                   Lector: Brad Sage

Gifts: April and Kelly Walsh.  If there are any other children of Knights attending, we would like them to join these gift bearers.

Ushers/Greeters:  Members of the Knights should check with Ralph DeFelice to volunteer your time

Alter Servers: Paul DeLucia and any other volunteers

We want all who are attending to meet in the church entrance at 7:25 and be escorted into Church by members of the 4th Degree Color Guard.

Our Membership Drive was a success.  We have three new applicants and about three to four showing strong interest.

THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED AT ALL THE MASSES.  ESPECIALLY TO RALPH DEFELICE FOR ALL THE WORK AND TIME HE GAVE TO MAKE THIS A VERY SUCCESSFUL DRIVE.

The Membership Committee will be meeting Monday March 5 to interview candidates and bring there recommendations back  to the Council at it’s March 7th meeting.

The First Degree is scheduled for March 29, Founders Day in Glastonbury.  ALL ARE WELCOME

On April 21 the Knights of Columbus along with Ernie Harriman will be sponsoring 11th annual Karate Tournament.  It will be held at Cromwell Town Hall starting at 10:00am.  We will need volunteers to help out that day.

DICK CZAPIGA works with the youth of our parish on the Living Stations of the Cross.  He will be needing help this year.  Anyone who is interested in helping out PLEASE call Dick at 635-6004.

WE ARE MISSING SOME OF OUR OFFICERS JEWELS.  IT WAS THOUGHT THAT SOME PAST OFFICERS MIGHT HAVE BROUGHT THEM HOME BY MISTAKE AND PUT THEM ASIDE AND FORGOT THAT THEY STILL HAVE THEM.  WE WOULD APPRECIATE IF YOU COULD PLEASE LOOK AROUND AND SEE IF YOU MAY HAVE THEM IN YOUR JEWELRY BOX AND RETURN THEM TO THE COUNCIL.

It will be discussed at the March Meeting to see if we want to participate in the Towns 150th celebration parade.  I think this would be a great opportunity as one, if not the oldest organization to be part of the Towns celebration.

At the March Meeting there will be a presentation to the Council on starting up a web site.  There is a cost to start up the web site and an annual cost there after.

On April 1 at 12:30 pm we will be having a small awards presentation at the council hall for the awards winners for the poster contest and basketball free throw contest.  We need volunteers to help out for about an hour or so.

The Golf Tournament is being sponsored with the Town 150 year Celebration Committee.  It will take place on July 12 at Quarry Ridge in Portland, followed by a buffet dinner.  Cost will be $100.00 per player.

ALSO PLEASE KEEP MEMORIAL DAY OPEN.  THE KNIGHTS WILL BE PLACING A FLAT BED IN THE PARADE AND WE WOULD LIKE TO FILL IT WITH OUR LIFE MEMBERS AND ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO RIDE.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR OTHER MEMBERS TO MARCH AS KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS DeSOTO COUNCIL #6 IN THE PARADE.

 FROM OUR FINANCIAL SECRETARY:

I am mailing invoices for the year 2001.  Dues are $25.00 annually.  They may be paid quarterly or semi-annually if you so desire.  Prompt payment will be appreciated thus eliminating a second notice with postage of $.34cents each.  Any question call George Schmaltz at 635-4245.  there are a few members who have not paid.  Please, send in you dues to George.

Thanks to all the members who have already sent in their dues.

Let’s see if we can get between 10 to 15 new members this year.  We are halfway there.  We need 5 to 7 more to get to 15.

IF YOU KNOW OF ANYONE WHO IS SICK OR IN DISTRESS PLEASE CONTACT HOWARD NIELSON @ 635-3231 or STANLEY STACHURA, Jr. @ 635-2648

COME TO THE NEXT MEETING AND SEE AN OLD FRIEND ! !
